Some of the single best photos I've taken are not staged. Nothing could be less planned out than a paintball to the face. The look on his face is one of humility, as he realized he is a beaten man. I shot the entire day with just the zoom lens so focus was my paramount concern. I really think the focus on the eye could not have been much better and was the proper spot to focus. I like the difference between his left and right eyes; one covered up by the paint and the other can be clearly seen. Perfect focus is tricky on an overcast day with a handheld camera and zoom lens, but if you can calm your hands and body, it is doable.
